Millions of Ohio's TANF Dollars Still Unspent

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services recently notified the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regarding the balance of unspent TANf funds. As of 6/30/06 there is an total uspent balance of $898,873,722. This is composed of $272,792,336 in unliquidated obligations, and $626,081,386 in the unobligated balance. This total is about $175,000 less than the previous quarter total. “Unliquidated obligations” are amounts a state has committed to spend but has not yet spent. This includes funds the state has set aside for counties, but which have not yet been spent. “Unobligated” refers to funds that the state has neither spent nor awarded.
